Recycling Made Easy: Wedderspoon's PETE Packaging

Wondering what to do with your empty jar or bottle once it's finished? Here's a straightforward look at what Wedderspoon's packaging is made from and how to recycle it.

What's actually in the packaging

Wedderspoon's honey jars and Apple Cider Vinegar bottles are made from PETE, Polyethylene Terephthalate, marked with recycling symbol 1 on the base. It's one of the most widely recycled plastics, used because it's clear, strong, and food-safe. The Manuka Honey Snap Packs use a similar plastic in their individual sachets, and the Manuka Honey Drops come in a cardboard box with each drop individually wrapped in plastic.

Why PETE specifically

PETE is one of the most commonly accepted plastics in kerbside recycling programmes, so most people can recycle a rinsed-out jar or bottle straightforwardly through their usual household collection. Once recycled, it can be turned into things like new bottles, containers, or textile fibres, rather than ending up as new, virgin plastic.

A small habit worth building

It's a small step, rinse the jar, check the base for the recycling symbol, and pop it in with your usual recycling, but it genuinely helps. It sits alongside the other changes we've made to how we pack and ship, see reducing our carbon footprint.

Recyclable packaging, on a range we'd stock either way.
