Our Wedderspoon range travels a long way, from New Zealand to the UK. Here's why we bring it in by sea rather than air wherever we can.

A smaller footprint, honestly

Sea freight produces significantly less CO2 per kilogram of cargo than air freight, so it's the more straightforward, genuinely lower-carbon way to bring in a range that has to travel this far. It's part of the same thinking behind the other changes we've made, see reducing our carbon footprint.

It also keeps prices sensible

Sea freight is generally more cost-effective than air freight for moving large volumes over long distances. That matters for keeping our Wedderspoon range priced fairly rather than passing on the cost of a faster shipping method we don't actually need for a shelf-stable product like honey.

Slower, but that's fine for honey

Sea freight does take longer than air, which means we plan our stock further ahead. Honey is a naturally stable, long-lasting product, it isn't the kind of thing that needs urgent same-week delivery to stay at its best, so the slower journey is a trade-off we're happy to make in exchange for the lower environmental impact and cost.
